Future Developments in Therapy Technology
Each year E3 offers a forum for the gaming communities and companies to promote their prototypes and tease the audience with products due for release.Wii Rehab - by Nicholas Kuhl
Software developed to give a doctor or rehab practitioner the opportunity to use the WiiMote technology to measure and actively work upper limb movements. By using the accelerometers within the Wii remotes and bluetoothing the remotes to a PC, the PC software that Nicholas has developed will report angles of movements of joints that the WiiRemotes are secured above and below.
Wii Vitality
'Heart monitoring application' that will connect to the WiiMote and feed information into the game regarding a persons heart rate. No release date as yet - some think it could be a wait.
XBOX Kinect
Microsoft have released their own interactive gaming hard and software that will work along side the existing Xbox console. The hands free device will use cameras to detect and monitor the movement of the user, and therefore interprets the motion to control actions on screen. Its main differential feature is that it does not require any additional controllers and will accurately sense and simulate motion of the player on screen.
SONY PS3 Motion Controller
In the following video Sony demonstrate their prototype motion controller. The controller has been named the 'magic wand' has an 'orb' at its end that can be detected by the already existing PS Eyetoy.
